The house rules.

1. Your licence

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app and its lessons for your own language learning, on devices you own or control. You may not copy, resell, sublicense, scrape or redistribute the course content, the audio, the character data or the app itself, or use them to build a competing product or to train a machine-learning model.

The source code of the web app is published on GitHub under its own licence file; those terms govern the code. These terms govern the service and the content.

2. Free plan and Pro

HSK 1 (the first 72 days at the default pace) is free, forever, with no account. SenLin Pro unlocks the rest of the course, the Deal Desk business track, the built-in AI tutor, cloud sync and the cloud voice. Pro is sold as a monthly subscription (US$11.99), a yearly subscription (US$59.99, which starts with a 7-day free trial) or a one-time lifetime purchase (US$149.99, a launch offer that may end). Prices are shown before you buy and may differ by country, store and tax.

A free trial converts to a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel first; we remind you by email before a trial on a web subscription ends. Only one free trial per person.

Subscriptions, renewals, cancellation

• Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
• Cancel any time in the store you bought from: Google Play → Subscriptions, App Store → Subscriptions, or the Stripe customer portal linked from Settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
• After cancelling you keep Pro until the end of the paid period.
• "Lifetime" means for the lifetime of the product on the platform you bought it on, for one account.

Refunds

Refunds follow the rules of the store you paid through: Google Play's refund policy, Apple's refund process, or, for web purchases through Stripe, a full refund within 14 days of a first purchase on request to the email below. Where the law gives you a stronger right (for example EU consumer law), that right applies.

3. HSK alignment and trademarks

The course is aligned with the vocabulary and grammar of HSK levels 1 to 6 to help you prepare. Mandarin The SenLin Way is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Hanban, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), Chinese Testing International (CTI) or any other body that runs the HSK exam. HSK (汉语水平考试) is a trademark of its respective owner and is used here only to describe the level system the course follows.

We do not sell exam registrations, official practice tests or certificates. Passing an exam depends on you, your study and the exam board; we make no guarantee of any exam result.

4. The AI tutor

The Talk page and Deal Desk role-plays are generated by an AI model (Claude, by Anthropic). Like every language model, it can make mistakes: a wrong tone, an unnatural phrase, an invented idiom, or advice that would be poor in a real negotiation. Treat it as a tireless practice partner, not an authority. Check anything important with a human teacher or a dictionary.

• Conversations are sent to Anthropic to generate replies; see the privacy policy for what is sent and kept.
• Anthropic's usage policies apply to what you ask. Do not use the tutor to generate harmful, hateful, sexual or illegal content, or to extract personal data about others.
• Tutor usage on Pro is subject to fair-use limits (currently generous daily message caps) to keep costs sane; we will show you if you hit one.
• If you use your own Anthropic API key, you are responsible for that key, its costs and Anthropic's terms.

5. Acceptable use

Please do not:

• share one account between several people, or resell access;
• bypass the paywall, tamper with entitlements, or reverse-engineer the server API;
• send automated traffic, scrape content or overload the service;
• upload or generate content that is illegal, infringing, harassing or that impersonates someone;
• use the app where doing so would break a law that applies to you.

Words, scenes and cast members you create are yours. You give us permission to store and sync them for you, which is the only thing we do with them.

6. Accounts and termination

You can stop using the app, reset your data or delete your account at any time (Settings, or by email). We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, after a warning where practical; if we close an account for a serious breach we do not refund the unused period. If we ever discontinue the service, we will give at least 30 days' notice and refund any unused prepaid period for subscriptions, and the free HSK 1 web version will remain available on GitHub Pages as long as GitHub hosts it.

7. Availability and changes

The app is offered "as is". We work hard to keep it up, but we cannot promise it will be available at all times or free of errors; lessons, features and prices may change. We may update these terms; if the change is material we will show a notice in the app, and continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new terms.

8. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses (including lost exam fees, lost profits or lost data you did not back up), and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death, personal injury or fraud, or your statutory consumer rights.

9. Governing law

Placeholder These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, and disputes will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, except that consumers in the EU, UK and other jurisdictions with mandatory local consumer-protection law keep the protection of that law and may bring claims in their home courts. (This clause will be replaced with the developer's actual jurisdiction before launch.)
